compare cars Aston Martin Works, the company's heritage and
restoration center, will celebrate its 60th anniversary in Newport
Pagnell, U.K., by launching a limited-edition Vanquish coupe and
Volante. Limited to just six units in total, the special Aston Martin
Vanquish receives numerous visual upgrades.
Each of the six Aston Martin Vanquish
models is uniquely tailored to its customer -- and to celebrate a
specific decade in the 60-year history. The first car, a Vanquish
Volante convertible revealed today, wears white paint with gold wheels
and trim, Q badging, white-and-black two-tone upholstery, engraved door
sill plates, special "heavy weave" carbon-fiber trim, and special Aston
Martin Works insignia. The infotainment system control knob is engraved
with the words, "Newport Pagnell 2005-2015." The Works facility is sited
on Aston's original factory; in 2007, production moved to Gaydon, so
the Newport Pagnell location has since then served primarily as a
heritage restoration and service location.
In fact, all of the main rotary controls on the
center stack of the special Aston Martin Vanquish have engravings
celebrating the 60th anniversary of the facillity, and all are made from
previously used Aston Martin pistons. When rebuilding engines on older
Aston Martin cars, the Works team kept one piston from a significant
vehicle of various eras and melted them down to be reformed as the
controllers on these special-edition models. The knobs come from the
pistons of a 1955-1965 Aston Martin DB 2/4 MK II, a 1965-1975 DB5, a
1975-1985 V8 coupe, a 1985-1995 V8 Vantage, a 1995-2005 V8 Vantage
Supercharged, and a 2005-2015 Aston Martin Vanquish.
Beneath the surface, the Aston Martin Vanquish
has not been tweaked from standard specification. Its 6.0-liter V-12
engine continues to send 568 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque to the rear
wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Through the coming months, Aston Martin Works
will reveal the five other unique versions of the limited-edition
Vanquish that serve to commemorate the 60th anniversary. The cars have
not yet all been sold, and Aston Martin Works says that pricing is
available on request.
